Penarth is fortunate to have so many
good schools, catering for nursery, primary and secondary education. There are severally privately-run pre-school playgroups and two County Nursery
Schools. At Primary level, there are eight schools including a Welsh
medium school, Church in Wales school and a Roman Catholic school. Four of
the primary schools have nursery units attached. There are two secondary schools currently catering for pupils up to 18 years of age and there is also one privately-run school covering the
age range 3 years to 16 years.
Two LEA special schools in Penarth cater for pupils with
disabilities, profound and multiple learning difficulties, severe
hearing impairment, autism and associated difficulties. Between them
they cover the age range 3-19 years on a 5 day residential and
non-residential basis. Two Primary Schools cater for certain special
educational needs as well as one Secondary School.
Penarth also has a Community Education Service which
aims to offer educational opportunities to the local community in many
ways, both on a formal and informal basis with an adult education
programme offering daytime and evening classes.
